Aphrodision
Aphrodision was an ancient city on the Karpas peninsula in the northeast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus .
After Mitford , Aphrodision was the capital of the Karpas in the late Iron Age , but was then replaced by Karpasia , which in turn fell under the rule of Salamis . The city is mentioned by Strabo and Ptolemy .
Localization
Mitford wants to localize Aphrodision in the area of Gialousa , others equate it with Agios Philon (Ayfilon) near Rizokarpaso . Hogarth identifies it with Aphrendrika east of Ayfilos, Hill with the fortified hilltop settlement of Rhani near Rizokarpaso. According to Tønnes Bekker-Nielsen , the Liastrika ruins near Akanthou are now recognized as the ancient Aphrodision.
