Aplysiatoxin is a cyanotoxin, i.e. a toxin of the cyanobacteria . It was found in various representatives of the genera Lyngbya , Schizothrix and Oscillatoria . The name refers to the sea snail Aplysia californica , which ingests cyanobacteria and uses the toxin to defend itself against enemies. It triggers swimmer's scabies on contact and is examined in medicine in connection with the development of cancer .
