Apocynaceae alkaloids are natural substances that u. a. occur in the plant family of the dog poison plants ( Apocynaceae ).

Voacanga africana

Tabernanthin occurs in Tabernaemontana laurifolia . Voacangin and Voacristin were isolated from Voacanga africana Stapf.

Representative

Tabernanthin is one of the representatives . Other representatives are Voacangin and Voacristin .

use

Plant parts of Voacanga africana can be found among African natives and the like. a. as a hallucinogen , for cultic ceremonies and as an aphrodisiac use.

Ethnomedical use

A decoction from the trunk or root bark is used to treat mental disorders and as an analgesic . The milk juice is applied to carious teeth. In southeastern Nigeria will Voacanga africana used in many healing rituals.
