The Hamburg restaurateur Heinrich Wullenweber had acquired a restaurant in Mühlenstrasse 46 in 1903 , which also included an event hall about 30 meters long and 7 meters wide. Wullenweber had variety programs performed here , and performances by traveling cinema companies were also shown.

In the spring of 1910, Wullenweber applied to the Lübeck police office to be allowed to convert the hall into a movie theater and received the corresponding approval. The elite cinema was opened on May 5th, only to close again after a few days. On May 10th, Wullenweber leased the cinema to Hermann Brehmer from Berlin , and on May 15th it went back into operation.
