Apollonia Elisabeth von Massow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apollonia Elisabeth von Massow was a German poet. She worked in Pomerania in the 17th century .

The members of the Pomeranian noble family Massow wrote evangelical sacred songs. A ready-to-print collection in 16 sections was presented to the theologian Franz Woken , who reported on it in his contribution to the Pomeranian History (1732), but was ultimately not printed.

According to Woken, Apollonia Elisabeth von Massow is said to have been the prioress of the Stolp Monastery. However, this is likely to be confused with her sister Anna Hedwig von Massow , who was actually prioress at Stolp Monastery.

Perhaps even this Anna Hedwig von Massow was the poet herself; then the attribution to Apollonia Elisabeth von Massow, which has been common in literature since Woken, would be wrong.
