The street Apollonienmarkt in the old town in Stralsund connects Mönchstraße at the Katharinenberg junction with the intersection of Ossenreyerstraße , Papenstraße and Judenstraße . It belongs to the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

The street was first mentioned under this name in the city cadastre from 1789.

Initially, the street between Mönchstrasse and Filterstrasse was called Pumperstrasse until the 16th century . Part of this street was later moved to Papenstrasse. The remaining section between Mönchstrasse and Ossenreyerstrasse was named Plunnenmarkt , which suggests that Plünnen, i.e. inferior clothes, were sold here. Another name was Pelzerstraße around 1500 after the local craftsmen who processed sheepskins. When the city cadastre of 1789 was drawn up, the name Plünnen was possibly no longer known or not intended. In any case, the author of the cadastre chose the name Apollonienmarkt, derived from Plonnie (Low German forApollonia ); possibly the Apollonia Chapel on Marienstraße near the Marienkirche gave its name.

Of the houses along the Apollonienmarkt, three are under monument protection (see also the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the houses Apollonienmarkt 1 , Apollonienmarkt 3 and Apollonienmarkt 16 .
