The filter street in the city 's Old Town in Stralsund connects the Heilgeiststraße at the height of the branch for small Schmiedstraße with the Long Road at the junction of the useless road . The Böttcherstraße and Papenstraße cross the Filterstraße, which is part of the core area of ​​the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

The street is first mentioned in a document in 1325. It got its name from the local felters . Until all sections of this street were merged into Filterstraße, there were different street names.

Between Heilgeiststrasse and Böttcherstrasse the street was called Altbötenstrasse since 1310 ; there were shoemakers who mended old shoes. The section between Böttcherstraße and Papenstraße was already called Filterstraße before 1869, but because of the executioner who lived here , this section was also called Bodelstraße or Büttelstraße , and the name Froneistraße is also documented. Between Papenstrasse and Langenstrasse, the street was called Vergüldete Strasse until 1869 . This was a paraphrase for the prostitutes who lived here until 1892 and were under the supervision of the executioner .
