The street Katharinenberg in the old town in Stralsund connects the Mönchstraße at the Apollonienmarkt with the intersection Tribseer Straße , Marienstraße , Knieperwall , Tribseer Damm and Frankenwall . The Henning-Mörder-Straße starts from the Katharinenberg. The street, which is part of the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Old Towns of Stralsund and Wismar, runs along the former Katharinenkloster used by the German Sea Museum and the Museum of Cultural History and the former Stralsund city wall .

The street was named after the nearby St. Catherine's Monastery. The street appears for the first time in documents from the middle of the 15th century. In 1869 several streets were merged to form the street Katharinenberg. Until then, only the section between Mönchstrasse and Henning-Mörder-Strasse was called Katharinenberg. The section between Henning-Mörder-Strasse and Tribseer Strasse was initially called Hilkenhol ; the part of the name “Hilke” probably comes from a local family, while “hol” was used to refer to a narrow area. At the western end of the street there was a racketeering , named after the Middle Low German word "Racker" for knackers. From around 1550 onwards, the place at the western end was named after this mess; from 1789 the square was part of the Hilkenhol.

Nine of the houses along the street Katharinenberg are under monument protection (see also list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the buildings Katharinenberg 1 , Katharinenberg 7/7 a , Katharinenberg 10 , Katharinenberg 12 , Katharinenberg 13/13 a , Katharinenberg 14 (to the Katharinenkloster ), Katharinenberg 30 , Katharinenberg 34/35 and Katharinenberg 39 (part of the city fortifications).

In the mid-1920s, the garden bar “Volksgarten” was opened in the street, which later operated as a bar called “Trocadero”.
