The Henning Killer Street in the city 's Old Town in Stralsund connects the streets Mount St. Catherine and Tribseer road near the New Market . It belongs to the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

Road sign

The street was first mentioned in 1311 as Mörderstraße . The name came from the noble family murderers , which belonged to the council families of the city of Stralsund around 1500. After the aristocratic family died out, the origin of the name was forgotten by the population, and the street name was perceived as offensive because of the obvious, false reference to murderers . In 1934 the city administration extended the street name to Henning Mörder. He had been the mayor of Stralsund around 1500 , but had left the city in 1515 due to a dispute with Mayor Sabel Oseborn.

There were four properties on Henning-Mörder-Strasse . Of these, only two houses remain, both of which are under monument protection (see also the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the houses at Henning-Mörder-Strasse 1/1 a and Henning-Mörder-Strasse 4/4 a .
