Apomixis
Apomixis is a form of reproduction that does not involve meiosis or fusion of gametes . So it is asexual reproduction. The offspring are genetically identical to the parent .
This definition of apomixis, which goes back to Hans Winkler in 1908, includes both reproduction via asexual, without prior fertilization, seed formation ( agamospermia ) and vegetative reproduction , apogamy and parthenogenesis .
Many authors use the term apomixis in a narrower definition for covering plants and excluding vegetative reproduction. Apomixis is then synonymous with agamospermia . In this sense, apomictic and apomictic are mostly used for an apomictic plant or species .
