The Aprilia RS 250 is a super sports bike from the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia , which belongs to the Piaggio Group. It is an offshoot of the Aprilia works team's racing machine, which was successfully represented in the 250cc class. The Aprilia RS 250, presented in 1995, was the last street motorcycle available on the market with a two-stroke engine over 125 cc when production was discontinued in 2002 .

History and technology

The Aprilia engine came from the Suzuki RGV 250 Gamma , but was revised in various details. Two Mikuni slide carburettors with a diameter of 34 mm supplied the engine with fuel via membrane control; the outlet was controlled by a rotary valve according to the speed. With a bore of 56 mm and a stroke of 50.6 mm, the short-stroke engine was designed for high speeds. The consumption was over 7 liters of petrol per 100 km and 2 liters of two-stroke oil for 1000 km. In 2002 production was stopped; The main reason was that with the two-stroke carburettor engine, despite the unregulated catalytic converter, the Euro 2 emission regulations could no longer be complied with .

Like hardly any other motorcycle of its time, the motorcycle was designed close to racing. The narrow usable speed range at 230 HP liter output , the light bridge frame made of aluminum profile, the banana-shaped swing arm, the narrow silhouette and adjustable gearshift indicator were expensive racing technology that the customer had to pay for with the follow-up costs, especially maintenance work (customer service every 4000 km). With the last classic, which held up the "oil flag", starting off at high speed and with a slipping clutch had to be learned. Then the Aprilia RS 250 enabled an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3  s .
