Apylinkės teismas
Apylinkės teismas is the entry point in Lithuania . The largest Apylinkės teismas is the Vilnius District Court with over 70 judges. The second instance is apygardos teismas (district court).
history
Apylinkės teismas emerged from the Soviet district people's court (lit. miesto / rajono liaudies teismas ) in Soviet Lithuania (comparable to the district court in the GDR ). The function of apylinkės teismas was exercised by the justice of the peace ( taikos teisėjas ) as a single judge before the Soviet occupation in 1940 . He had his own judicial institution.
