Dieter Spiess

Dieter Spiess (born May 13, 1924 in Mannheim ; † January 25, 2017 in Battenberg ) was a German entrepreneur and honorary consul of Burkina Faso .

Life

Dieter Spiess was born in 1924 as the son of the entrepreneur Paul Spiess and the chemist Irmgard Spiess . His father managed the chemical company CF Spiess & Sohn GmbH & Co, founded in 1861, in the third generation . As a young man, Dieter Spiess fought for three years in World War II and was taken prisoner by the French for another two years . After the war he studied at the Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg Economics . In 1954, after completing his doctorate, he joined his father's company, which he took over management in 1963 together with his mother and brother.

Dieter Spiess was Honorary Consul of Burkina Faso for Rhineland-Palatinate since August 1, 1974 and also for Saarland since 2013 . Thanks to his commitment, numerous development aid projects could be implemented; u. a. the construction of a dam to supply water in the municipality of Boulyoghin and the construction of several schools and medical facilities. In 2006, President Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso awarded Dieter Spiess the “Chevalier de l'Ordre National” medal for his services to development aid.

Dieter Spiess was a board member of the Social Market Economy Action Group , which was founded by his teacher Alexander Rustow .
