The aquarium was a night club in the old town of Ulm . It became known nationwide for its celebrity guests and for its extravagant parties.

history

The aquarium was run by restaurateurs Garry Lottermoser and Manfred Zauter from 1966 to 1999 in Ulm at Kohlgasse 20 in the old town. Many German and international celebrities such as Curd Jürgens , Udo Jürgens , Nina Hagen , the Spider Murphy Gang , Nana Mouskouri , or Wolfgang Ambros regularly visited the restaurant when they were in Ulm. But also world stars like Deep Purple or Freddie Mercury (singer of the band Queen ) were among the regular visitors. Freddie Mercury even celebrated his 39th birthday in the aquarium on September 7, 1985, and maintained a close friendship with Lottermoser and Zauter until his death in 1991. He also regularly invited them to his concerts.

According to Manfred Zauter, other restaurateurs also orientate themselves to his restaurant (coll. Glitzerbistro) such as Kai's Bistro in Munich . Kai's Bistro was just as pompous as the aquarium decorated with champagne buckets, movie posters, photos of the celebrity guests, large gold-colored decorative mirrors and plush sofas. The aquarium also played a pioneering role in the field of theme parties with dress codes . The aquarium attracted greater media attention on July 9, 1988 with the alleged visit by Michael Jackson - it was only later that it became known that it was actually a doppelganger.

Well-known traditional bon mot was when Freddie Mercury got rid of his tuxedo at a party and continued to celebrate with a bare chest. When a business woman from Ulm made fun of it, Mercury replied: “You can undress yourself. I don't mind. "
