The Barcelona Aquarium ( Catalan Aquàrium de Barcelona ) is a saltwater aquarium in the old port of Barcelona ( Port Vell ) in Catalonia ( Spain ). It has 35 individual basins that contain a total of around 6 million liters of seawater. It houses more than 11,000 animals belonging to around 450 different species. The main component is an 80 m long, glazed underwater tunnel with a treadmill that leads under the so-called oceanarium (pool 18). This includes u. a. Blue sharks , rays and sunfish .

The individual basins of the aquarium are modeled on the different habitats of the animals. Essentially, the Mediterranean Sea and the tropical waters are shown, but especially the Great Barrier Reef ( angelfish , rainbow parrotfish - basin 15).

Since it opened on September 8, 1995, the aquarium has been visited by more than 30 million people. The Barcelona Aquarium is a member of the Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquaria (AIZA) .
