Arab as-Samniyya

Arab as-Samniyya ( Arabic عرب السمنية, DMG ʿArab as-Samnīya ), also Khirbat as-Suwwana (خربة الصّوانة, DMG Ḫirbat aṣ-Ṣūwāna ), was a Palestinian village in western Galilee that was conquered and depopulated by Israel during the Palestine War . It was in the subdistrict Acre of Mandatory Palestine , 19.5 km northeast of the city of Acre . In 1945 the village was inhabited by 200 Arabs on an area of ​​1,872 dunums .

history

The village was on a stony hill by the road between Ra's al-Naqura and Safad . It was tied by a beaten path to the coastal highway that leads to the city of Acre. The houses in the village were built of stone. The villagers grew corn, figs and olives.

According to population statistics from 1945, the village was inhabited by 200 Muslims in an area of ​​1,872 dunums . 174 dunums were dedicated to growing grain, and 22 dunums were irrigated and planted with orchards.

Palestine War and Consequences

On October 31, 1948, during Operation Hiram by the Israel Defense Forces , the village was captured by Israel's 7th Brigade and Carmelite Brigade . It was completely destroyed. After the war, the area became part of the State of Israel and the village remained unpopulated. 1950 was Moshav Ya'ara established in the field.
