The Arabian pinto (often also: Pintabian or Pintarab ) is contrary to many opinions not a color breed, but a specially recognized horse breed. The thoroughbred Arabs with piebald fur must have 99% Arabs in their blood. Although this breed is well known, it is one of the rare breeds with around 300 registered horses. In Germany, more than 90% Arabian thoroughbred is sufficient to be recognized as a Pintabian (ZSAA).

Background information on horse evaluation and breeding can be found under: Exterior , interior and horse breeding .

Exterior

Due to the high proportion of Arabs in the blood, the striking resemblance to the thoroughbred Arab remains and, in combination with the colorful mix of colors and the elegance of a thoroughbred Arab, often looks very exotic. The head is (like the Arab) small and dry with a straight or concave profile (pike head or also called "Arab kink"), a broad forehead, large eyes and sickle-shaped ears. The Arabian pinto is also a horse of square format with a nicely curved neck, short back and a high tail. A 50/50 share of the color scheme, which consists of a white base color and the spotting, in which dark colors are still dominant, but not a requirement, is desirable. The basic color of the limbs is usually white, but only the Tobiano check is allowed for the trunk . The long hair is often two-colored. A two-tone mane is not uncommon here either.

interior

In their character, the Arab pintos do not differ from their monochrome breed fathers. It is not for nothing that Arabs are one of the most popular horse breeds in the world, as they are considered intelligent, very people-oriented, persistent, willing to perform and versatile. Because of this versatility, Arabian pintos are not only suitable for show purposes or as a leisure horse , but more and more Arabian pintos can be found in the ranks of western riding horses.

Breeding history

A thoroughbred thoroughbred Arabian cannot have a Tobiano check because the gene responsible is not in the breed. In order to breed piebalds in Arabian optics, piebalds were back-crossed with thoroughbred Arabs for at least seven generations in order to obtain the desired optics.
