Arabsat 2A was a television satellite owned by the Arab Satellite Communications Organization (ARABSAT) based in Riyadh . It belonged to the 2nd generation of the ARABSAT satellite fleet and was launched on July 9, 1996. Arabsat 2A has not been active since June 2005 and has been moved to orbit ( cemetery orbit ) for discarded satellites.

The almost exclusively Arabic-language programs that were broadcast via Arabsat 2A could be received in North Africa , the Middle East and the Middle East and the Balkans . The transmission took place in the C or Ku band .
