Araff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Araff is a submerged village in what is now Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The place was north of Arfeld in the Arfe valley .

history

It is not possible to say exactly when the village was built. Due to the age of Arfeld , the place could have originated in the 10th century. Araff was first mentioned in a document in 1418 in a contract between Johann von Wittgenstein and Godebert von Hatzfeld . After the seizure of Dotzlar and the payment of 300 florins , Godebert von Hatzfeld renounces the previously seized villages of Araff and Heilgershausen with all their shares and accessories. In 1439 Araff is described as a desert town. Only the Pfandbrief via the Arfeld parish remains in Hatzfeld's possession.
