from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The working group for agricultural history was an association of scientists who worked in the field of agricultural history . It existed from 1994 to 2012 and had around 150 members in 2011. The aim of the working group was to promote German agricultural historical research in an interdisciplinary and international context. In addition to the social and economic history, cultural, political and environmental history approaches. In addition, cooperation with archeology , geography , sociology and folklore has increased.

The working group was founded in 1994. The last chairman was Stefan Brakensiek , who works at the University of Duisburg-Essen . He held annual summer meetings. Larger colloquia dealt with forms of communication in rural society (1997), the change in village-city relationships (1999), the environmental history of agriculture (2004) and farmers as traders (2006).

The AKA newsletter was published twice a year by Johannes Bracht and provided information on the subject-specific debates. In 2002, Bracht also set up the homepage as a broad science forum, which also reported on research and publications by the members.

Every two years from 2008 to 2012, the working group awarded the Agricultural History Prize for the best thesis in agricultural history (Bachelor, Master, Magister, etc.) in the amount of 1000 euros.

There were collaborations with the French Assocation d'Histoire des Sociétés Rurales , the Austrian Institute for Rural History and the Swiss Society for Rural History . In addition, there was a cooperation with the German Society for Agricultural History (GfA) and a close connection between the working group, the GfA and the journal for agricultural history and agricultural sociology .

On December 31, 2012, the working group dissolved. Membership in the Society for Agricultural History was recommended to those interested in professional exchange , which continues some of the activities of the working group.
