Oesterholz archaeological trail
The Oesterholz Archaeological Educational Trail is located on the western edge of the Senne in the district of Oesterholz-Haustenbeck in the municipality of Schlangen in the East Westphalian district of Lippe in North Rhine-Westphalia .
description
The Oesterholz Archaeological Educational Trail was established in 1982 and leads along a freely accessible circular path through a group of ten burial mounds from the Bronze Age . Before that, the burial mounds, some of which were damaged by robbery excavations and sand extraction, were cleared of vegetation and restored. In the course of these measures, some of the burial mounds were archaeologically examined in order to obtain more detailed information on their construction. The excavation findings are shown on information boards on the individual hills. The tour is complemented by two burial mounds reproduced on an open space in the original scale, which are shown on average to show their different constructions.
