Archbank Farm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Archbank Farm is a farm near the Scottish city of Moffat in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1971 the associated barn was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1988.

description

The farm is isolated around one kilometer north of Moffat. The barn is believed to be from the late 18th century. The relatively high, two-story building forms the northern end of the courtyard. Its masonry consists of quarry stone with limed facades. There are two windows and three entrances on the south side. The building closes with a slate roof.

The barn has on the north side a overshot water from cast iron . This is equipped with wooden buckets for driving. The water is branched off from a stream running to the east and fed to the water wheel via a stone pipe. A lock, which is operated from a window via a wooden mechanism, regulates the water flow. The wheel is used to drive a threshing mechanism that has been completely preserved.
