The Archboldmäuse ( Archboldomys ) are a rodent species from the group of murinae (Murinae). They are small, shrew-like rodents, they weigh less than 50 grams. Their fur is brownish, the tail is relatively short. The genus includes two species that are endemic to the Philippines island of Luzon :

The Isarog Archbold Mouse ( Archboldomys luzonensis ) lives exclusively in the mountain rainforest on the Isarog volcano . The rodent specialist Guy Musser first described this animal in 1982 and named it after Richard Archbold , a supporter of zoological expeditions who died in 1976 and whose foundation had also organized Musser's trip to the Philippines. The holotype was an animal with a head and torso length of seven centimeters and a tail of the same length. The top is dark brown, the underside dark gray. After the first description, it took almost twenty years until the Isarog shrew rat was found again. In the meantime it has been established that it is even relatively common at an altitude between 1350 and 1750 meters. Because of its extremely small distribution area, it is classified by the IUCN as "endangered" ( vulnerable ). It is obviously a diurnal inhabitant of the forest floor, who feeds on earthworms and insects.

The great archbold mouse ( Archboldomys maximus ) occurs on the upper slopes of Mount Amuyao in north-central Luzon.

The genus Archboldomys is systematically considered to be part of the Chrotomys group , a radiation of old world mice that only lives in the Philippines.
