Archibald Koe

Archibald Stephen Koe (born April 26, 1865 , † April 26, 1915 off the Gallipoli Peninsula ) was a career officer in the British Army and, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, commander of the 1st Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB).

Koe joined the army in 1886 and served in various colonial assignments. In 1913 he became the commander of the 1st KOSB . In this role he took part in the landing at Cape Helles as part of the failed expedition to Gallipoli . He landed with his battalion on beach section Y on April 25, 1915 and was seriously wounded in a Turkish counterattack.

Returned on board, he succumbed to his wounds on April 26, his 50th birthday, and was buried at sea. His name is on the later built Helles Memorial on Cape Helles .
