Archivio storico del Comune di Venezia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Archivio Storico del Comune di Venezia or Historical Archive of the City of Venice is located on Campo della Celestia in the Sestiere Castello . It preserves the holdings that have been created since 1806 and that arose from the activities of the municipal institutions and that were considered worthy of archiving. The archival material created before this time is in the Venice State Archives .

In addition, there are stocks of the same nature that were created by 1926 in the municipalities of Murano , Pellestrina and Burano , which were dissolved at that time . The collections of the municipal archive also include photographs that have come to the house mainly through acquisitions. There are a total of 181,500 photo negatives, plus 600 reproductions and 16,000 positives as well as 200 reproductions. These include numerous city views and those of individual buildings, such as the Teatro La Fenice or the industrial plants of Mestre and Marghera .

In addition, in 1995 the Fondo Giacomelli , i.e. the holdings of Studio Giacomelli, was purchased. These approximately 180,000 negatives were created between around 1920 and 1970. The fund has already been cataloged.

Particularly important for the history of industrialization is the inventory of only 1,500 negatives from Studio Ferruzzi, some of which the archive was able to buy or exchange. The port authorities also deposited their thematically related holdings, some of which came from Studio Ferruzzi, in the municipal archive.

In addition, there are small stocks of positives donated by families, such as an album from the First World War. Finally, large-format photos were created to process building applications and the like, several hundred of which are in the archive. Many buildings that have been converted or disappeared can be recorded in this way, but also public events, such as celebrations or funerals.
