Ardra

Ardra was a kingdom in what is now the Republic of Benin, north of the Kingdom of Allada . The capital was Allada, the official languages ​​of the kingdom were Aja and Fon .

In the 12th or 13th century, the Adja joined the Fon and were the rulers.

Around 1610, the Fon ruling dynasty was deposed in Allada and Hunungungu from the Adja dynasty of Ardra was installed. The king died early and Allada became part of Ardra. To avoid unrest, the capital was moved to Allada.

King Gangnihessou died around 1620 fighting for Abomey . After his death, the empire was divided among his brothers. Kokpon received the capital of Great Ardra, Allada . Do-Aklin received Abomey and established the Kingdom of Dahomey . Te-Agdanlin received Little Adra and founded the city of Ajatche .
