Portal Tomb by Ards Beg

The collapsed portal Tomb of Ards Beg ( Irish An Ardaidh Bheag ) is in Falcarragh (Irish An Fál Carrach or Na Croisbhealaí ) in the north of County Donegal in Ireland . Megalithic systems on the British Isles are called Portal Tombs , in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the capstone of the complex was still on the two portal stones and the chamber walls were perpendicular. Today the chamber collapsed under the weight of the 4.0 m long and 0.8 m thick capstone. The wall stones were pressed outwards. The chamber was about three feet long and a little over three feet wide. The portal stones, between which a half-height door stone stood, are about 1.8 m high. The system is oriented almost east-west. The grave is in the garden of a bungalow that was built only about two meters from the Tomb portal.
