As Areflexie the complete absence of one or more reflexes referred. A distinction can be made between missing stimulus responses to optical stimuli (for example, the narrowing of the pupil when illuminated with a flashlight ) and haptic stimuli (for example missing Achilles tendon reflex ). In contrast, weakened or decreased reflexes are referred to as hyporeflexia , increased or increased reflexes as hyperreflexia .

More common diseases associated with areflexia are polyneuropathies associated with diabetes mellitus , alcohol abuse and other metabolic diseases , Landry's paralysis or radiculitis . Less common diseases with areflexia are, for example, Adie syndrome or borreliosis .
