As hyperreflexia in the will Neurology both a generally increased reflex readiness than the increase also of individual reflexes referred. In both cases, the hyperreflexia is expressed through an unusually strong reflex response with easier triggering of muscle reflexes (reflex zone broadening).

A general hyperreflexia with a general increase in the muscle reflexes can occur in a number of diseases (including metabolic diseases such as hyperthyroidism ). However, this examination finding does not necessarily have a disease value: it is also observed in healthy people, especially when they are excited.

The hyperreflexia of individual muscle groups can (together with pyramidal tract signs ) indicate damage to the motor tracts in the brain and spinal cord .
