The Arena Cora is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Tepic , the capital of the Mexican state of Nayarit . The stadium, designed for athletics and football events , can accommodate 12,945 visitors and serves as the home ground of the football club Deportivo Tepic . The name was chosen in honor of the Cora indigenous people living in the state of Nayarit .

history

The stadium opened on June 12, 2011. The official inauguration took place two weeks later on June 25, 2011 with a friendly game between Chivas Guadalajara and Deportivo Toluca . Toluca dominated the game for long and deservedly won 1-0 with a goal that Raúl Nava scored in the 22nd minute. The game was chaired by World Cup referee Marco Antonio Rodríguez . Chivas' squad included Cristian Morán and Miguel Jiménez, two players born in the local state of Nayarit.
