The Joinville arena is a football stadium in the Brazilian city of Joinville . It can seat 22,400 spectators and is used by Joinville EC as a venue for home games.
history
The Joinville arena in the city of the same name, which now has around 530,000 inhabitants in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil and is also its largest city, was built in 2004 and opened on September 25 of the same year. Architecturally, the stadium is heavily based on modern European venues. It is widely considered to be one of the most modern Brazilian football stadiums, with the design closely based on the Amsterdam Arena . At the time of its opening, the Joinville arena offered space for 15,000 spectators. The first game in the new stadium was a friendly between two All-Star teams, one of which was made up of players from the city of Joinville . But this was defeated by the general All-Stars-Team with 1: 3.
The Joinville EC football club has been using the arena as a venue for home football matches since 2004 . Joinville EC played from 1977 to 1987 in the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol , the top football league in Brazil. This was followed by many years in the second, third and fourth class. It was not until the 2015 season that Joinville EC was able to celebrate its return to the upper house of Brazilian football as champions of the second-rate Série B , which means that first division football will be played in the Joinville arena for the first time in 2015. In addition, the club has won the Santa Catarina State Championship thirteen times .
After the Joinville arena had a capacity of 15,000 spectators at the time it opened, the venue was expanded in 2007. After the reopening on June 26, 2007, there was now room for 22,400 onlookers. This capacity continues to this day, although there are plans to increase the capacity of the Joinville arena to 30,000 seats in the long term. Integrated into the stadium is a shopping center with over one hundred shops, which is one of the largest of its kind in Joinville.
