Arg-é Bam

Arg-é Bam ( Persian ارگ بم) is an abandoned large, heavily fortified citadel in Bam in the Iranian province of Kerman , which is believed to have been built between the 6th and 4th centuries BC. Was founded.

It is the most striking building in the city; The entire population of the city lived here for over two millennia. Therefore, among other things, a mosque, an ice house , apartments and military facilities are located here . The building was used for military purposes until 1932. From the 19th century onwards, a new town had developed outside the fortifications, so that in 1932 the last inhabitants left Arg-é Bam.

The building has been a World Heritage Site since 2004 (part of "Bam and its cultural landscape").

On December 26, 2003, the structure was badly damaged by the 2003 Bam earthquake . Until then it was the largest earth building in the world. In 2004 the building was also included in the Red List of World Heritage in Danger; In 2013 it was discontinued.

The structure is managed by the Cultural Heritage, Crafts and Tourism Organization . The building is currently being reconstructed with funds from abroad, among other things.
