The three-axle Arganda steam locomotive was manufactured by Henschel & Sohn in Kassel in 1925 . It is used in running order on the Spanish museum railway of the Asociación Vapor Madrid between the La Poveda station in Arganda del Rey and the Laguna del Campillo in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, southeast of Madrid.

Technical specifications

There is a narrow gauge of 1000 mm gauge . Their power is 60 hp. It has an empty weight of 8.9 tons and an operating weight of 11.5 tons including the weight of coal and water. Their maximum speed is 20 km / h, which limited use for passenger trains, but is reasonable for today's tourist trains. The serial number 20605 is stamped on many components.

History and current use

It was previously used in the port of Musel in Gijón , Asturias to pull heavy loads at low speeds.

The locomotive was acquired in June 1990 in a badly rusted but complete condition by the Asociación Centro de Iniciativas Ferroviarias Vapor Madrid (CIFVM) at a scrap yard and completely overhauled. The restoration took three years. The locomotive had to be completely dismantled. The boiler was rebuilt in Utebo ( Saragossa ). The three axes were machined in the workshops of the Madrid Metro . Most of the other work was done by volunteers from the association.

In the spring from March to May and in the autumn from October to December it is used on Sundays for tourist trains, which are composed of various wagons, including those with two-axle bogies . The trains depart from the old La Poveda train station at 11:00, 12:00 and 13:00 to cover the 3.5 km route between Arganda del Rey and Rivas-Vaciamadrid. The landscape that is crossed is varied. A highlight of the trip is the crossing of the Jarama River on a long metal bridge overlooking high plaster cliffs.

Other locomotives of the association

The Arganda is not the club's only steam locomotive. The general overhaul of the Áliva , another steam locomotive made in Germany by Orenstein & Koppel, which formerly belonged to the Real Compañía Asturiana de Minas , is already well advanced. There are also two other steam locomotives, several diesel locomotives, railcars, buses, trucks and vans of various origins. Almost all rolling stock is narrow gauge.
