Argies is an Argentine punk rock - ska band with reggae elements that was founded in 1984 .

The name is an English, often derogatory nickname for Argentines, which is used in particular in the context of the Falklands War .

style

Although her musical roots are in British punk of the seventies, with tendencies towards ska , reggae, Latin American music and, to a large extent, rock & roll , her lyrics have a profound nature and are reminiscent of classic punk bands, especially in recent years with clearly left-wing ideals on the one hand and nonsense texts on the other.

The difference between the Argies and other rock or punk bands is that they do not have a permanent line-up, but see themselves as a merger of different independent musicians who go their own way again after a certain time. The only one who's been around since the band was founded is David Balbina, singer and guitarist.

history

After their rather moderate success in Latin America , the group was discovered by the Düsseldorf band Die Toten Hosen at a concert in Buenos Aires in 2002 and subsequently played as the opening act for the band at several concerts in Argentina and Austria. They then played at some punk festivals in Europe and became popular in the punk scene. In total, The Argies made 1233 appearances in 43 countries and on three continents between 1996 and 2018, including over 800 in Europe. However, these statistics do not include the numerous benefit concerts that they held for the benefit of children suffering from Down syndrome or homeless children.
