The Argus Range is a mountain range in Inyo County in the US state of California southeast of Darwin . The mountain range forms the western limit of the Panamint Valley and the northwest limit of the Searles Valley . The Coso Range is in the west and the Panamint Range in the east.
geography
The Argus Range is one of the westernmost mountain ranges in the Basin and Range Province . The northern end of the range is at Panamint Springs on State Route 190 . The mountain range runs south to Argus Peak , which is northwest of Searles Lake near the town of Trona . Highest mountain with 2695 m height of the Maturango peak .
The ridge of the Argus Range is located within Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and therefore the peaks of this range are not open to the public.
Argus Range Wilderness
The Argus Range Wilderness , under the direction of the Bureau of Land Management , runs 45 km along the east side of the Argus Range. It extends from the military area in the west to the foot of the Argus Range in the east. Most of the wilderness area is no more than 3 km wide.
