Ariel Helwani

Ariel Helwani (born July 8, 1982 ) is a Canadian mixed martial arts reporter.

Career

Helwani began his career in 2006. He worked for Fox Sports , NBC Sports , and the MMA Fighting news portal and is a board member of the MMA Journalists Association . For his pioneering work in reporting in a relatively young sport, he was honored with the title "MMA Journalist of the Year" at the World MMA Awards 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

In 2016, Helwani got caught in the crossfire of the MMA organization UFC when he announced a fight between Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt on Twitter before the organization itself. The organization threatened Helwani with a lifelong ban on reporting its own events, but ultimately had to give in.

He has been working for the US sports broadcaster ESPN since 2018 .
