The rootstock ' Aripa 143 A ' is a cross between a European Vitis vinifera variety (' Aramon ') and the American Vitis riparia . It was introduced in Austria by Lenz Moser after the Second World War as a rootstock for the biotechnological control of root aphid . Today, due to clear disadvantages, it is no longer important and is no longer recommended.

Ampelographic features

  • Shoot tip: light green, strongly inclined, youngest leaflet ship-shaped
  • Leaf: three-lobed, sharply toothed, U-shaped stem
  • Shoots: brown-yellow, grooved, strong nodes
  • Blossom: hermaphroditic, bearing grapes
  • Grape; small, with deep blue to black berries

Properties - use

It is a weakly growing rootstock with little drought resistance. It has a low tolerance to lime (total lime content ~ 15%) and insufficient resistance to root phylloxera. It is also sensitive to waterlogging in spring and reacts with severe chlorosis .
