Aristidis "Aris" Moumoglou ( Greek Αριστείδης "Αρις" Μούμογλου , * 1942 in Veria , Greece ) is a former Greek basketball player .

Career

In 1958 Moumoglou came to Iraklis Saloniki at the age of 16 , for whom he played in the youth team over the following two seasons. A year later he was appointed to the national team. In the summer of 1961, Iraklis' coach, Agis Kinigopoulos got him in the first selection. For the 1963/64 season he was with Iraklis Greek runner-up and was the second best thrower of his team with 376 points in 18 games. When Iraklis dropped out of the A1 Ethniki in 1967/68 , Moumouglou resigned and began studying at a pharmaceutical college. With the completion of his studies, he rejoined the 1971/72 season Iraklis, who now played first class again. In his first comeback season he was the best thrower in the league with 654 points. He remained loyal to Iraklis until the end of his career.

Most points in a competitive game (world record)

In July 1972, the country's sports magazines reported on the Iraklis league game against local rivals Byzantikos AO , which they defeated on July 13, 1972 with 172: 94 points. In the official match report a result of 170: 94 points was given. The difference between the last two points came about because Moumoglou's last hit came after the final siren had sounded and was therefore not counted. The special thing about this game was the total of 143 (or 145) points that Moumoglou scored. Moumoglou holds the record for the most points scored in an official competitive game. College player Jack Taylor nearly broke that record in November 2012 . In the game Grinnell College from Iowa against Faith Baptist Bible Taylor reached 138 points in the third college division. Grinnell won the game with 179: 104 points.
