Armand Guerra , born José Maria Estivalis Calvo , pseudonym José Silavitse (born January 4, 1886 in Llíria , Valencia , Spain ; † March 10, 1939 in Paris , France ) was a Spanish actor , director , screenwriter , writer and anarchist .

Life

Guerra, son of a farmer, learned the trade of typographer .

In 1907 he took part in strikes and was arrested. Then he went to Cuba and back to Europe and settled in Paris. There he came into contact with anarchist groups.

He became a journalist and then went via Switzerland and Italy to Egypt and back to France.

In 1912 he made his first short film.

From 1923 Guerra worked in the Ufa film studios in Babelsberg . In 1933, after Hitler came to power, he returned to his homeland.

He died of an aneurysm in 1939 .
