Armand Leclaire (* 9. September 1888 in Montreal , † 6. August 1931 ) was a Canadian actor and playwright .

Life

Leclaire attended the Conservatoire Lassalle and the Collège de Montréal . In 1912 he married Rose-Alma Ouellette , a sister of the actress Bella Ouellette , who was married to the theater director Fred Barry . He was probably part of Barry's troupe as an actor. He wrote nearly forty plays, many of which, however, remained unprinted and unplayed.

The first of these pieces was Le jardin des Oliviers and, like virtually all of his pieces that have been performed, it came on stage under the direction of Barry. He also wrote many chanson texts for the performances of the Barry troupe. In the pieces Le petit maître d'école (1916) and Laurier (1929) he addressed the problems between English- and French-speaking Canadians. Several of his dramas ( Le petit maître d'école , Entre deux civilizations , Laurier , Fleur d'Irlande and Le ménestrel ) and some of his poems are in the holdings of the National Library and the University Library of Quebec, respectively.
