Armando Discépolo

Armando Discépolo (born September 18, 1887 in Buenos Aires ; † January 8, 1971 there ) was an Argentine dramaturge, author and theater director.

Life

Discépolo was the son of Italian immigrants, the poet and tango composer Enrique Santos Discépolo was his brother. Discépolo became famous at the age of 18 when José Podesta, director of one of the largest theater companies in Argentina at the time, staged his work Entre el hierro with great success.

His work belongs to the Argentina-based style of Grotesco Criollo , which includes comical or grotesque pieces in the milieu of the poor or often also of immigrants. From 1934 he was mainly active as a theater director.
