Armatocereus procerus is a species of plant in the genus Armatocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet procerus comes from Latin , means 'tall' or 'slim' and refers to the growth habit of the species.

description

Armatocereus procerus grows tree-shaped, usually has no clear trunk and reaches heights of up to 7 meters. The upright, dark green or gray-green shoots are clearly divided into segments. There are eight to ten ribs with large areoles on them . The one to four yellowish central spines have a darker tip and a length of up to 10 centimeters. The 15 to 20 radial spines are up to 2 inches long.

The white flowers are up to 7 centimeters long and 5 centimeters in diameter. The fruits are green. They are up to 7 inches long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Armatocereus procerus is common in the Peruvian regions of Ancash , Lima and Ica .

The first description by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg was published in 1956.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
