Arevakhach
The Armenian sign of eternity ( Armenian Հավերժության հայկական նշան 'sign of eternity'), also Arevakhach (English transcription of the less common Armenian name արևախաչ (German transcription: arewachatsch ) 'sun cross'), is considered in the culture of Armenia as a sign of eternity and also the Goodness, kindness, the sun , life, fire, fertility and birth, progress and development. As the national symbol of Armenia, it is often found as an ornament in Armenian architecture, for example on churches and khachkars (cross stones), but also as a decoration on everyday objects, on coins or in badges and logos of Armenian organizations.
It exists in a right-hand and a left-hand version; the former is associated with activity, the latter with passivity. Similarly, the clockwise version is found on baby cradles when a boy is expected, while the counterclockwise version is assigned to a girl.
Both variants are available as characters in the Armenian Unicode block as ֍ U + 058D right-facing armenian eternity sign and ֎ U + 058E left-facing armenian eternity sign . The right-hand variant was already included in the Armenian 8-bit code ARMSCII . This symbol is also used in texts (similar to the asterisk in German) in lines between poetry stanzas.
