The Armenian Genocide Memorial Larnaka in the Republic of Cyprus is a monument dedicated to the martyrs and survivors of the Armenian genocide of 1915–1922 in the Ottoman Empire . It is located on the waterfront of the city of Larnaca and marks the place where thousands of Armenian displaced persons and refugees who fled the atrocities of genocide landed in Cyprus (the port of Larnaca). Your position is adjacent to the entrance of Larnaka's current marina.

The memorial represents the gratitude of the Armenian nation to the people of Cyprus for their generosity and support for the Armenian refugees.

Establishment

The construction of the memorial was a joint project between the governments of the Republic of Cyprus and Armenia and was initiated by the parliamentarian Bedros Kalaydjian, the only representative of the Armenian community in the Republic of Cyprus. The memorial was primarily financed by the government of the Republic of Cyprus. It was designed by the architect and city planner Angelos Demetriou, with the help of the architect Michael Thrassou. It includes a bronze monument surrounded by rows of pomegranate and cypress trees . The four granite plaques on the base of the sculpture ( describing the monument in Armenian , Greek , Turkish and English ) were provided by the Government of Armenia. The monument itself was created by the Greek artist Georgios Kalakallas.

The square in front of the memorial was funded by the Kalaydjian Foundation and connects the Armenian Genocide Memorial with Larnaka's main promenade.

On November 24, 2006, during the state visit of the President of Armenia to the Republic of Cyprus, the foundation stone of the memorial was laid by President Robert Kocharyan .
