Armenuhi Drost-Abgarjan

Armenuhi Drost-Abgarjan (* 1955 ) is an Armenian-German literary scholar and orientalist. Since 2010 she has been DAAD professor for Armenology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Drost-Abgarjan studied Armenian Philology at the Yerevan State University from 1972 to 1977 . From 1977 to 1980 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Literature of the Armenian Academy of Sciences . From 1978 to 1985 she completed a doctoral degree with a research grant at the Institute for World Literature of the then Academy of Sciences of the USSR at the Department of Ancient Literature under Sergei Aveverintsev .

In 1984 and 1985 she completed the preliminary defense of her dissertation in Moscow and finally did her doctorate at the State University of Tbilisi with Akaki W. Uruschadze on the subject of "The comparative poetics of the hymnographic genres in Greek-Byzantine and ancient Armenian literature". From 1985 Drost-Abgarjan moved to the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg : there she was initially a research assistant and then an assistant (C1) and - until 2010 - senior assistant (C2) at the Oriental Institute of the MLU (seminar Christian Orient and Byzantium). In 2003 she qualified as a professor in Halle with a work on the Armenian hymnarium Sharaknoz for the subject areas “ Science of the Christian Orient with special consideration of Armenology”. Since September 2010 she has been DAAD visiting professor for Armenology at the Christian Orient seminar at the Oriental Institute of the MLU. She is also acting director of the MESROP Center for Armenian Studies.
