Armin Scherb (born April 2, 1953 in Arberg , Ansbach district ) is a German political scientist and didactic specialist. He teaches as a professor for didactics of social studies at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

Career

Armin Scherb studied political science, sociology, political science and sport for teaching at grammar schools. In 1986 he completed his political science doctorate under Gotthard Jasper at the University of Erlangen Nuremberg on the constitutional development of arguable democracy . After working as a teacher at the Simon-Marius-Gymnasium in Gunzenhausen, he was appointed to the University of Bayreuth in 1998 . In the period that followed, Scherb took on teaching positions at the Catholic University of Eichstätt, Chemnitz University of Technology, Weingarten University of Education, University of Oldenburg. Since 2006 he has been head of the didactics of social studies department at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. In 2007 he received his habilitation at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and in 2008 he received his habilitation at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Scherb's main research interests include work on the relationship between controversial democracy and political education , theories and philosophies of political education, and conceptual justifications of democratic learning . In political education, Armin Scherb takes a pragmatic position based on the American philosophers John Dewey and Charles Sanders Peirce , according to which science and (political) education are not primarily a search for truth (s), but above all serve the endeavor, to find socially acceptable solutions for problems and obstacles that may be encountered.

Armin Scherb has been a member of the Federal Board of the German Association for Political Education (DVPB) since 2003. From 2006 to 2009 he was second national chairman. Since 2009 he has been chairman of the Bavarian regional association of the DVPB. He is a founding member of the Society for Political Youth and Adult Education (GPJE). Since 2003 he has been editor of the magazine POLIS published by the DVPB and since 2012 advisory board of the trade magazine Gesellschaft-Wirtschaft-Politik.
