Arms and Sleepers is an American music duo made up of Max Lewis from Boston and Mirza Ramic from Portland . Their style is mostly referred to as ambient or trip-hop .
history
Max Lewis and Mirza Ramic were once members of The List Exists, a post-rock band from Brunswick . When this dissolved in 2006, the two decided to start a new music project together. According to the company, the founding was inspired by an incident that happened in an ambulance in Cambridge : Lewis and Ramic experienced the death of a man who was listening to gospel music on a cassette recorder.
Arms and Sleepers' first release was the EP Bliss Was It In That Dawn To Be Alive . The debut album Black Paris 86 was released in 2007. Both were well received by the critics. In 2009 the second album Matador was released . Musically it represents a break, since compared to the previous releases many pieces that are not purely instrumental can be heard on it. Matador was created in collaboration with other musicians, including Tom Brosseau , Philip Jamieson from Caspian , and Ben Shepard and Catherine Worsham from the post-rock band Uzi and Ari . The third album, The Organ Hearts , was released in May 2011 and was also recorded in collaboration with Uri and Azi.
On April 4, 2012, Arms and Sleepers' official blog announced an indefinite break from creation and performance.
