Arno Fleischer

Arno Fleischer (born August 15, 1926 in Obersalzbrunn , Waldenburg district in Silesia , † July 3, 2005 in Schwedt / Oder ) was a German painter , graphic artist , caricaturist and poster artist. In addition to various painting techniques, he also dealt with offset printing , lithography , woodcut , photo montage and caricature.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a farm worker in Graumannsdorf in 1943, he was called up for military service in 1943, wounded in 1945 and taken as a prisoner of war in the Soviet Union . In December 1949 he was released from captivity and went to Oelsnitz i./V. to the newly founded GDR , where from 1950 he joined the advertising department of the Konsum retail chain . In 1951 he went to Bad Elster as a commercial advertiser for contract houses. From 1952 to 1957 he studied at the University of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee a. a. with Ernst Jazdzewski and Werner Klemke and shaped his realistic drawing style there.

From 1958 Arno Fleischer worked as a freelance graphic designer. In 1967 Fleischer was awarded a prize in the “The New Berlin” competition in the “Graphics” group.

Act

He began his artistic development as a commercial painter.

The themes of his works are his opposition to war and the exploitation of man by man. He dealt with the everyday life of the people in the GDR , the socialist government and the military conflicts of his time. His political posters reflect his own positioning or that of his clients, such as the SED district leadership.

In addition, landscapes and nature were also the main themes in his pictures.

His woodcuts, which can be found in the German Historical Museum , are particularly well-known .
