Arno Kasemaa (formerly Arnold Kaskmann , August * 28 . Jul / 10. September  1915 greg. In Karepa, community Haljala ; † 18th March 1999 in Kiltsi (Väike-Maarja) ) was an Estonian prose writer.

life and work

Arno Kasemaa was the son of a small farmer and only graduated from high school for young workers in Rakvere at an advanced age , namely in 1957. After that, he worked in schools in various places on the northeast coast of Estonia until 1979, including Käsmu .

After his retirement he switched to writing and achieved a great public success with his debut novel Strandkiefern (1986), whereas the criticism was rather cautious and accused the author of an excessive preference for copulation scenes, which "later alternate with adventure stories about liquor smuggling." What is undisputed, however, is his good knowledge of the life of the coastal population, from which he draws the subject of his other novels.
