biography

education and profession

Weinkauf completed an apprenticeship as an aircraft manufacturer from 1941 to 1943. After that he was a soldier, prisoner of war and farm worker. From 1946 to 1956 he worked as a locksmith at Borgward in Bremen. In 1948 he became a member of the IG Metall trade union . 1956 to 1964 he was a technical employee in aircraft construction.

In 1964 he became secretary of IG Metall and in 1968 first authorized representative of IG Metall in Bremen and deputy managing director of the housing association Neue Heimat in Bremen as well as a member of the board of the Bremen Chamber of Employees . In a time of wild strikes (1969) and several IG metal lists in the works council elections of the Klöckner-Werke in Bremen, Weinkauf became known beyond Bremen through the exclusion process of the IG-Metall Bremen in 1970 against 42 opposition unionists of the Klöckner-Hütte Bremen, including the Deputy Chairwoman of the Works Council Bonno Schütter.

At the beginning of 1984 there was strong resentment in the union against buying wine. While this advocated the introduction of a training place fee in Bremen, the SPD parliamentary group abstained from buying wine after lengthy debates, which led to the rejection of the law. In February he lost the post as the first authorized representative in a battle vote to Hans Ziegenfuß , the works council chairman of Werft AG Weser .

politics

Weinkauf joined the SPD in 1966 and became chairman of the local SPD association Osterholz-Ost in Bremen.

From 1975 to 1987 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship . In the citizenry he mainly worked in the deputation for economy and foreign trade.
